Analytical Chemistry and Thermal Analysis Division

  • Fluid analysis and chemical analytical testing
  • Thermal analysis and physical property measurement

Examples of fluid analysis include chemical and analytical testing of a variety of heat transfer fluids, glycols, brines, deicers, refrigerants, drilling and cutting fluids, oils, hydrocarbons, lubricants, and other organic and inorganic chemical solutions from a variety of industries. Our thermal analysis and physical property measurement include any kind of liquid and solid materials within the temperature range of -100°C to 350°C.

Corrosion and Materials Testing Division

  • Corrosion testing, analysis and performance evaluation
  • Failure analysis (field and in-house) and expert witness
  • Metallurgical and materials evaluation and selection

Typical testing and analysis that we dealt with in this division include:

  1. Corrosion testing by immersion, electrochemical and other methods under standard, custom, simulated or field test (e.g., chemical, temperature, pressure, flow, loading or mechanical) environments and conditions for weight loss or corrosion rate measurement and corrosion performance evaluation, specification or classification, e.g., corrosiveness/corrosivity of chemical solutions, fluids, products, and liquid wastes, corrosion inhibiting efficiency of corrosion inhibitors and additives, and corrosion resistance or susceptibility to corrosion and localized corrosion attacks such as pitting/crevice corrosion, stress-corrosion cracking, intergranular attack, formicary corrosion, exfoliation, filiform, erosion, fretting corrosion, dealloying, sensitization, hydrogen damage, and other corrosion and environmental cracking or degradation of materials and products;

  2. Field and in-house failure analysis and root cause investigation on products, structures or components failed due to environmental, manufacturing/processing, application or design problems, with emphasis on analysis of corrosion (in forms of localized corrosion attacks, environmentally assisted cracking and embrittlement), metallurgical (material defects from manufacturing/processing), and mechanical (e.g., fatigue, creep, and fracture) related failures; and

  3. Materials evaluation and selection using microstructural (e.g., metallography and microscopic image analysis), surface analysis (e.g., SEM/EDX), mechanical testing, and other metallurgical, physical and chemical research methods and test tools.

We serve as a problem solver for our customers and have worked with various metallic and nonmetallic materials, products, equipment and structures (or components) for material (e.g., metals, coatings), HVACR, biomedical (e.g., surgical implant devices), water treatment, oil/gas and chemical processing, energy, marine, transportation, automotive, aerospace, defense, electronic, mechanical, and many other industrial applications.

In addition to regular testing and analysis, we can also serve as your R&D business partner. We can provide research, development and commercialization programs through industrial contracts, governmental grants, or collaborative efforts. We have received two Federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants to develop a "Complex Coolant Fluid for PEM Cell Systems" for DOE and an advanced coolant for Directed Energy Weapons (DEW) cooling for DOD, both utilizing nano-technology.
